A leading U.S. healthcare company relied on decades-old COBOL systems for processing claims running on mainframe. As digital experiences continued to expand, the applications remained rigid, costly to maintain and quickly became a fragile bottleneck in the claims process (slowing every attempt at modernization.) After multiple years of effort, only around 10% of the systems had been updated, leaving critical claims processing stuck in legacy gridlock and limiting future innovation to the patient experience.

The solution

To achieve a faster and more reliable claims process, Publicis Sapient deployed Sapient Slingshot our AI-powered software development platform, to accelerate modernization of the outdated platform. Slingshot transformed legacy COBOL code into clean, maintainable Java and React, auto-generated functional specs and test cases and enabled cloud-native deployment. Human-in-the-loop validation ensured quality, compliance and reduced risk at every stage.

To keep up with mounting consumer expectations, this global CPG giant was generating hundreds of thousands of digital-first experiences and pieces of content every year. Multiple brands in different countries required social posts, product descriptions, campaign concepts, video scripts and more. They wanted to create more personalized content, but the approach was too expensive to sustain. At the same time, their existing content process was slow and costly. Campaigns took months to produce, markets worked in silos and manual resizing and localization caused significant inefficiencies. Helping a major global bank modernize COBOL systems in record time

A major British retail and commercial bank needed to modernize its mainframe batch feeds for financial and data products along with its payments module. Its Unisys COBOL codebase contained deeply complex data mappings spread across hundreds of main files, subroutines, C files and copybooks. Understanding these interdependencies manually was slow, costly and prone to errors which created drag on the modernization effort.

The solution

In just eight weeks, Publicis Sapient analyzed more than 350 files nearly half a million lines of code across two critical programs to define business specifications and design a modern target-state architecture with a revamped data model. Using our GenAI-driven application modernization approach, we delivered full program overviews and flowcharts, detailed field mappings, and fan-out diagrams that allowed Product Owners to validate functionality quickly. We defined a clear modernization roadmap, redesigned the data model and converted all specifications into a comprehensive BRD then turned them into user stories and loaded them into JIRA for execution.

Content production was slow, manual and costly, which made it nearly impossible to keep up with demand for personalized messaging across channels and markets. Their legacy outsourcing model created long lead times, limited reuse of existing assets and blocked their goal of becoming a customer-centric organization.

The solution

Publicis Sapient deployed Bodhi, a generative AI marketing solution hosted in the client’s environment, to transform content creation at scale. Streamlined data ingestion, MLOps and creative workflows enabled teams to generate compliant-ready copy and imagery in seconds. It delivered image recommendations, end-to-end campaign generation and translation support while integrating with existing systems through a secure AWS architecture that used CloudFront, API Gateway, VPC, EKS and AWS Bedrock models for robust content generation and refinement.
