Hi, I'm Alex Nicolaides, Senior Product Manager of the AA Driving Theory App, and I'm excited to introduce our new app. While there are many theory apps available in the market, we wanted to create an app that not only provides access to learning material, but also motivates and empowers learners to succeed. Our app stands out by applying gamification techniques such as daily streaks, personalization, and trophies, which provide a sense of achievement and encourages learners to keep going. We've also carefully crafted the tone of voice to ensure that feedback is always positive and encouraging, regardless of the learner's performance on the practice test. It was important for learners to have flexibility in their learning. One of the app's standout features is the flashcards, which allows learners to choose their own learning style. We noticed that many learners were making physical flashcards, so we turned them into a digital experience that enables users to quickly flip through questions and answers, making it perfect for those who only have a few minutes to spare and wanted to recap on their knowledge. Overall, our app provides a better learning experience that motivates learners and gives them the confidence to succeed.
So every year, over a million people start to learn to drive in the UK. The first step to getting on the road and all the freedom and independence that it brings is to pass that theory test. But this is more challenging than ever before, and we've seen a record low in the pass rate of just 44%. And we recently at the AA came across someone who passed on their 60th effort. It's not just learner drivers who struggle. In our research, only 18% of experienced drivers felt very confident that they would pass if they were to take their theory test today. And a whopping nine out of 10 admitted they came across road signs they simply do not understand. Now the AA, we're all about creating confidence for drivers. So we set out to turn this around, which is why I'm delighted that we have recently launched the AA Theory App.
