SPEAKER:

In this film, we focus on the work we did with the LA Public Defender's Office, which we tackle a massive project. I mean, we digitized 160 million documents. That's quite incredible. In doing this film, what did you learn about work?

SPEAKER:

Obviously, this is a story that's rooted in the justice system. And I think what was so beautiful and ripe about this story was that oftentimes people aren't getting the justice and defense that they need because it's so burdensome to actually like pull together the case. Noah, the public defender in the film, told me that each case on average has about 5,000 sheets of paper. And after the decade of work that Publicis Sapient did, that system became digital. Everything was suddenly at the fingertips of these public defenders. And it was transformative. The film that we made is all about forgiveness. You know, people that didn't have a choice, people that are suffering from mental illness, who should be treated differently than other folks in the justice system. And so this is the work that Publicis Sapient does not only helps us align with our values, but it literally, in this case, helped to free someone from prison. And that's just one story. Focusing on Noah's story, we were able to get access to a very, just for a documentary team to get access to an active public defender's case is basically unheard of. Like it's very, very, very unusual. So this is a very special look into a world that is basically is locked to public access that we were able to get into and understand through the eyes of Noah. In this film, our work is solving a systemic issue of a system that is completely broken. And what I thought as I'm watching is this will have an exponential impact that will continue to multiply because we'll continue to help people day after day from years to come. Did you feel the same?

SPEAKER:

100%. I mean, this is a dramatic case in which the digitization actually enabled a different outcome for the client to drill into how this will help like many, many, many people. So let's say if you get even slightly tangled in the criminal justice system, it will, because it's so slow and it takes so long, the effects are disastrous, right? And like we heard from Noah, 200,000 cases a year, right? Like who wins? Who wins by this huge inefficiency? Nobody. It's extremely expensive. It's a huge pain in the butt. People who shouldn't be in prison are in prison. There's no one who wins. It's a lose-lose proposition because we aren't applying our intelligence and our best technology to our most important problems. And that's what's so hopeful about this story, right, is that we are taking a lose-lose and making it a win-win. And one of the things actually we want to do as a company is to help people, how to tell a story of impact, how to help them to connect those dots. It's all about people. Stories are about people. You think about what they want and what's in their way of getting what they want. And so it doesn't matter whether it's, you know, work like this or whether it's, you know, making it easier for someone to spend time with their family as they're waiting for their food at a restaurant. All of those things at different scales are helping people achieve what they want. It's time with our family. It's forgiveness. It's, you know, shelter. It's safety. It's an opportunity to thrive. So all the work that Pupil Assistant does is, in the end, providing folks with that. Ben, thank you for talking with me today and for making our work come to life so beautifully and so emotionally.

SPEAKER:

Likewise. Thank you for the opportunity.
