SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Would you buy a car in the metaverse?
SPEAKER: Respondent 1
SPEAKER: Anshua Arora
- Hello, I'm Anshua Arora, and I love cars.
SPEAKER: David
- Hi there, I'm David. I'm a bit of a split between a petrolhead and a sort of eco-warrior.
SPEAKER: Candice
- Hi, I'm Candice. I live in London. I'm a mother of two, and I drive an SUV.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Car dealerships, overrated or underrated?
SPEAKER: Anshua Arora
SPEAKER: David
SPEAKER: Candice
- I would say a bit of both. I think it's good to speak to a human and to have a relationship with somebody you can pick up the phone to every time you have a problem. But at the same time, it's not a very pleasant experience in terms of environment when you are in a dealership, I think.
SPEAKER: Anshua Arora
- I do not like the experience of negotiating that price. Instead, I would like to buy it online where there's a fixed price, fixed offer for all the customers, and there is full transparency in the buying process.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Connected cars, overrated or underrated?
SPEAKER: Candice
- Do you mind telling me what that is?
SPEAKER: David
- From your car, you can control things which are not near you. We're talking about app controls. We're talking about connectivity into the city infrastructure. We're talking about tracking. Using a voice command, I can ask my car to turn the heating on in my home. I can ask my car to turn on the kettle.
SPEAKER: Anshua Arora
- The connected cars are critically important. I would say underrated.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Car subscription services.
SPEAKER: David
- Leasing a car or subscribing for a few months or something. I'll probably say underrated.
SPEAKER: Candice
- Four years ago, we started leasing. We have a brand new car in our driveway every four years. We don't have to pay for any of the additional costs such as MOTs or road taxes, and they even service your car.
SPEAKER: David
- If you think of how you might use a car, you might want it as a quick run around for the city for a few weeks, or you might want to do a weekend trip away. You need the ability to switch that quickly and not to make it completely extortionate in terms of price.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Backup camera, underrated. I use mine all the time, and I've only crashed it once.
SPEAKER: David
- Heads up display, I would say highly underrated. I'd say these are underrated. I do miss that with the Tesla. I don't get that at the moment. I find it much easier to look in the front.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
SPEAKER: Candice
- Finance. When you have a family, it's hard to say just cash like that.
SPEAKER: David
- If you had the cash and you could spend it, I would say cash every time.
SPEAKER: Anshua Arora
- If I have the money, I would probably go cash.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Leather or cloth interior?
SPEAKER: David
- Artificial interior, or you can get vegan leather. I'd rather use that. There are fabrics which are made out of mushroom. There are fabrics which are made out of cactus, and that's the way for the industry to go.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
SPEAKER: Candice
- I've really enjoyed having a touchscreen on our current car. It would be good to have actually a combination of both.
SPEAKER: David
- This is a big subject. Two things. One is haptic feedback. You can't feel stuff on the touchscreen. Your mental model of a real dial or a real knob, you know that you can operate these controls without even looking down really easily. With a touchscreen, even though you might know the system really well, you still have to double check, make sure you've done that.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Phone GPS or built-in navigation?
SPEAKER: Candice
- Just use your phone in-car navigation as long as you set it up in the right way not to distract you and you don't use it while you're driving.
SPEAKER: David
- Built-in navigation, I would say. There's less fuss about handing your phone at the same time, and especially if the monitor is nice and large. That's a great feature to have in a car.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- Can you draw your dream car?
SPEAKER: Candice
- Yes, thank you for asking me that. Perfect car. Fairly sporty. Wheels. This would be my dream car. It would have no wheels. It would hover. It would be solar. And it would be self-driven. There you go. Something like that. Practical, speedy, sporty as well. That's what I'd like to have.
SPEAKER: David
- Oh, I can be better than that. So, this probably might be my dream car. And I've tried to, but not done a good job, to make it look like the Mercedes Vision EQXX. They have done a lot of research on the exterior of the car in order to achieve a 1,000 kilometer range on a single charge. So this would end my range anxiety. And also, it is a super cool car to look at.
SPEAKER: Interviewer
- David, would you just want to test that?
SPEAKER: David
- I have. God, I'm such a fanboy. You put me on the spot. Other cars and EV and ICE and other combustion engine types are available.
