Gold Medal Data: Architecting the Real-Time Engine for the LA Olympics with Eventim
The Imperative For Change
As Europe’s leading ticketing provider, Eventim faces an unprecedented operational challenge with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Transaction volumes are expected to reach approximately twice those of the Paris 2024 Games, which processed 6.5 million tickets. Legacy batch-based systems, constrained by inherent latency, could not meet these demands. Publicis Sapient and Eventim jointly developed a Real-Time Data Integration Layer on Google Cloud in 2025. The platform migrated roughly 100TB of data to a streaming architecture, establishing a scalable foundation for global Olympic ticketing.

Ingestion & Migration (AWS takeout):
The AWS MSK workload was migrated to Google Cloud Pub/Sub, consolidating ~100TB of legacy data into a unified message bus for global ticket transactions.
Processing & Integrity
Dataflow’s windowing and watermarking capabilities address the "unbounded data" problem, enabling millisecond-accurate ticket availability through real-time stream joins.
Analytics & Democratization
BigQuery functions as the central data repository. Looker integration provides business users with dynamic, self-service analytics.
The Transformative Solution Visualized
Batch Latency vs. Olympic Velocity
Scheduled-batch processing introduced a data latency of over 15 minutes, acceptable for standard concerts, yet incompatible with Olympic-scale demands where inventory shifts within milliseconds. With LA28 projected at roughly double the 6.5 million tickets sold during Paris 2024, the system needed to support significantly higher concurrency. Fragmented data silos compounded the problem by undermining transaction integrity and limiting real-time visibility for promoters.
