SPEAKER A:

The National Archives and Record Administration, or NARA, was established in 1934 and is the record keeper for the United States. The agency identifies, protects, preserves, and makes historic records of all three branches of the federal government available to the public. Up until the 1980s, NARA had no digitized files. Our relationship with NARA began in 2018, when we were brought on to help digitally transform the organization. Since then, we've worked with NARA covering 40 years. So, how do we do it? We modernize NARA's data preservation by migrating millions of files and data from on-premise data centers to the cloud. NARA's holdings amounted to over 5 million cubic feet, or 12.5 billion pages, of federal and presidential records in physical paper form. Puba's Escapian has migrated over 770 terabytes of data. That's 76.9 million standard storage boxes filled with paper. 18,199 miles. And 6,152 smartphones. To make all this happen, we use our best practices and experience gained in other large-scale data migration efforts to ensure the transfer goes smoothly. It's extremely complex and time-consuming, and as you can imagine, requires a high level of security. As you can see, this switch from paper to analog to digital data is exponential. And this work doesn't stop here. We're excited to see how this work sets the foundation for future preservation efforts, this presidential administration, and beyond.
